Customs Benefits
To smooth the transition back to Israel, tax exemptions and concessions will be granted on imports of various items, including significant concessions on the import or purchase of a new car.
The concessions granted to persons returning to Israel after a stay of at least six years abroad will be identical to those granted to new immigrants.
This is the only item among the program's benefits for which eligibility is conditional on a stay of at least six years abroad, instead of the five years specified in the special program terms.
Returning residents who resided abroad for between two and six years will also be entitled to certain expanded benefits.
All customs benefits apply to persons entering Israel starting from July 1, 2010.
For full details on Customs concessions and items that may be brought into the country duty-free see the Customs Guide (Hebrew) and the Guide to Purchasing Products Made in Israel (Hebrew) on the Israel Customs Authority website.
Income Tax Concessions
In order to reduce tax obligations during the period of acclimatization and reestablishment in Israel, the status of a returning resident will be equalized with that of a new immigrant, and the returning resident will be given personal income tax credit points.
For full details about eligibility for personal income tax credit points see the
Israel Tax Authority website (Hebrew).
