Appeal to researchers to submit proposals for employment of immigrant / returning resident as a researcher doctor for the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption and the Chief Scientist's Office in the Ministry of Health.
In this Israeli government program to support the Negev and the Galilee, and in order to encourage the absorption of immigrants and returning residents as research doctors in hospitals in the Negev and in northern Israel, the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption will, through The Center for Absorption in Science, 2 scholarships for research doctor positions in medical institutions in the Negev and in northern Israel.
The scholarships are set up to enable doctors, immigrants and returning residents, who have an MD, PhD and MD, and previous research experience, to be absorbed in a job no later than October 15, 2008 and to conduct quality medical research in hospitals in the Negev and in northern Israel.
Research doctors who meet the following criteria are invited to submit proposals:
Immigrant doctor who has an M.D., or a Ph.D. – M.D., whose date of immigration to Israel has not exceeded 9 months on the day the application is filed.
A returning resident doctor with an M.D. or a Ph.D.-M.D. whose date of return to Israel did not exceed 3 months on the day the application is filed. (Preference will be given to Israelis who were overseas for over 5 years).
An immigrant / returning resident who earns the scholarship in accordance with this program will be employed as a doctor in one of the hospitals in the north, and will dedicate half of his time to research. Attached to the scholarship application must be letters from the director of the medical institution and from the director of the department where the candidate is scheduled to work that promises to allow the candidate, should said candidate be awarded the scholarship, to dedicate half of his work time to research in the hospital.
Submitted applications will be judged in the Chief Scientist's Office in the Ministry of Health and in accordance with the standard criteria for awarding doctor-researcher scholarships. Preference will be given to candidates who can create interaction with researchers in institutions where active research is being conducted in the proposed research field or in a similar field.
Selection to the program is for 3 years and the winner will be obligated to submit a research progress report every year to the Chief Scientist's Office in the Ministry of Health.
The scholarship budget will be managed by the employing hospital's administration.
The scholarship, which will be awarded by the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, will be valid for a period of 3 years, in accordance with the following:
First year – total 'full cost' of employment of the winner in a half-time position as a doctor and half-time position as researcher, should total NIS 250,000.
Second year –Half of the full cost of financing the half-time position as a researcher.
Third year – half of the full cost of financing half-time position as a researcher.
Reimbursement for research expenses (in first year only) – NIS 50,000.
