Assistance to Artists and Sportsmen

Assistance to Artists

A 'returning resident' recognized as an 'artist' by the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption, having provided the necessary professional certificates, is entitled to assistance from the Ministry.

Recognition as an "artist" can be done by referring to the Ministry of Absorption Professional Committee, or will be given to whoever is employed by any "leading cultural institution" in Israel, as defined by the Ministry of Absorption.

An artist recognized by the Professional Committee as an outstanding artist, may receive recommendation for additional assistance from an Inter-Ministerial Committee for Artist Absorption as well as from foundations and other institutions.

The professional committees operate in the following areas:
 
 Plastic arts
 Music
 Theater and light stage arts
 Dance
 Cinema and television
 Literature
 Composition

Assistance to artists recognized as eligible includes:

 Initial assistance in the form of a one time grant for the purchase of professional tools or equipment.
 Assistance in exposure such as the publication of a first book in Israel, a first recording, concert or first performance, exhibition, catalog, participation in fairs and events, etc.
 Special courses for artists.
 Participation in financing wages.

New artistic bodies established by returning resident artists, may receive prolonged financial support for up to 5 years (such as: artist salaries, rehearsals, costumes, scenery, advertising, etc.).

The submission period for assistance applications – up to 24 months from the date of returning to Israel.

Assistance to Sportsmen

Returning residents recognized as sportsmen by the Sports Authority at the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sports, will be eligible for a one time grant to purchase sports equipment or professional clothing as well as to assistance in finding employment according to Ministry procedures.

Sportsmen with outstanding achievements in their fields and who are recommended by the Competitive Sports Unit, will be included in the Olympic team and will receive monthly financial assistance.

Chess players with outstanding achievements in the field of chess and who are recommended by the Chess Players Union, will be included in the Olympic Chess Team and will be entitled to monthly financial assistance.

The submission period for assistance applications – up to 24 months from the date of returning to Israel.
